- Can I request a Music For All performance at a time other than those listed on the letter? Is it possible to have groups visit at another time of year?
We unfortunately cannot schedule performances other than between the dates given, due to the Eastman class and exam schedule. However, with a special request, a group might be able to perform at a site in the Fall semester or early Spring semester. A list of sites interested in having such a group visit is maintained at Eastman. Please contact Petar Kodzas, Music for All coordinator, if you would like to be added or for more information
- How long does each performance last? Can the chamber music groups stay and do repeat back-to-back performances for a different audience?
Music For All performances for the schools are designed to fit into a class period (generally 30-45 minutes); you can indicate the duration of your class on the response form. The community performances range from 45-60 minutes, and again, please indicate the desired length on your form. Unfortunately, we cannot require the student groups to stay and repeat their presentations, since they are only excused from classes for a limited time to do their Music for All performances. It is also a curricular requirement that they give only two presentations, one for a school and one at a community site.
- I have filled out the response form with times that I would like a group to come and perform. When will I know for certain if a group will be coming at that particular day/ time or not?
You will be contacted in late January to re-confirm your desired performance dates and times. The final schedule will be completed the second week in February, after all the students sign up. You will then receive definite confirmation of your performances.
- Will I know the music and instruments the students will be playing before their appearance?
You will be notified of the type of group (string quartet, piano trio, etc.) and the instruments that will visit, and you will be given a contact person for each group. Feel free to make contact with that student regarding the group’s specific repertoire if you wish to prepare your audience ahead of time.
- Will the student groups get in touch with me prior to their performance?
The contact person from each student group is requested to get in touch with you at least one week before the performance to confirm their arrival, to check the group’s directions to your site, etc.
- Is there a cost involved in having a Music for All performance at my site?
No. The program is underwritten by the Eastman School and by the generosity of several local, private donors.
- I would like to hire an Eastman student group to play background music for a party, wedding, etc. How would I arrange this, and is this part of Music for All?
Music for All does not provide groups for hire; Music For All focuses on presenting interactive performances for a seated audience. For all background and party music, you may contact Eastman’s Career Services Center at 274-1210, and they will be happy to help you.
- How do the student groups get to their performance sites? If I can provide transport for the groups, would this be needed?
Students either drive themselves or use a taxi to get to the sites. If you have transport to provide (especially if you are a site more than 20 minutes from downtown Rochester), this would be greatly appreciated. Details can be arranged with Petar Kodzas.
- What is the ideal number of audience members for these performances?
Music for All performances are designed for audiences of a maximum of 30 people. Since this is the first time that many of these students have presented an educational performance, we ask that you keep the audience size and performance space intimate.
- Will the student performers talk and interact with the audience?
Yes, the chamber music faculty at Eastman works with the students specifically to develop ways of effectively introducing the music they have been studying to audiences of all ages.
