Class Piano Placement Audition Information for August, 2017

9:00 AM—12 noon      ESM 209, 320, 442 & 443. 

Results will be e-mailed to students before registration and posted on ESM/Registrar’s home page: http://tempest.esm.rochester.edu/registrar/

Students will need to add piano-class once they have their placement test results.

 

At the audition, students should be prepared to perform

  1. TWO SOLOS chosen from the STANDARD teaching repertoire; memorization is NOT required.

    1. one Baroque

    2. one from Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, 20th or 21st Century

  2. SCALES: one major, one minor (any form); hands together, 2 octaves (student’s choice of keys)

PCL 101-104 CLASSES BEGIN THURSDAY, 8/31

PCL 101: students with NO prior training in piano.
Major technical focus: all white key major scales and corresponding arpeggios, 2 octaves, HT

PCL 102: students with some prior training in piano.
Major technical focus: all white key minor scales (all 3 forms) and corresponding arpeggios, 2 octaves, HT; review all white key major scales

PCL 103: students with 1-2 years of study.
Major technical focus: all black key major scales, and corresponding arpeggios 2 octaves, HT; review all white key major and minor scales and arpeggios

PCL 104:  Students with 2 or more years of study.

PCL 105: Students with 3 or more years of study.
Major technical focus: all major and minor scales and arpeggios up to 3
#s, 3bs, 4 octaves, HT;
Private lessons focus on 3 pieces: from Baroque, Classic, Romantic

 

PCL 106: Major technical focus: ALL major and minor scales and arpeggios completed, 4 octaves, HT;
Private lessons focus on 3 pieces: from Impressionistic, 20th and 21st Centuries
NOTE: PCL 106 is
not more advanced than 105; a scale/arpeggio fingering guide, which will be given

 

PCL 105/106 CLASSES BEGIN FRIDAY, 9/1

 

Students with 4 or more years of study—or are at a level above PCL 106—will most likely be exempted from class piano requirements.

Students may elect further piano study.
and will be sent information regarding Secondary Piano Auditions.
