Proposal for New Course Offering

New Course Proposal Form

Guidelines for Proposing a New Course:

•  For undergraduate courses:  Faculty members should submit their proposals for new undergraduate courses to the Academic Affairs Office.  The Steering Committee of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC) will review a proposal and make recommendations to the department if needed.  The UCC, which meets bi-weekly, hears a presentation on the new course proposal at an initial meeting, and then UCC members take the matter back to their departments for discussion.  Voting on a proposal is scheduled for the subsequent UCC meeting, although additional meetings may be required to fully consider the curricular impact of the new course.

•  For graduate courses:  Faculty members should submit their proposals for new graduate courses to the Graduate Studies Office.  The Associate Dean of Graduate Studies will review the proposal, make recommendations to the department if needed, and then place the proposal on the agenda for the next Graduate Professional Committee and/or Graduate Research Committee meeting(s).  The GRC and GPC, which meet twice per semester, hear a presentation on the new course proposal, and then the members take the matter back to their departments for discussion.  Voting on a proposal is scheduled for the subsequent meeting, although additional meetings may be required to fully consider the curricular impact of the new course.

•  If a new course is intended for both undergraduate AND graduate students, both levels of committees must review the proposal.  Faculty members should submit their proposals to both offices.
